What is the difference between a french and american manicure?

I know an american mani is supposed to look more natural, but what makes them look different? I can't get a pic on the internet of it, what does it look like? Is the white done underneath the nail instead of on top? What is the difference between a french and american manicure?
To achieve a less drastic contrast between the white tip and the nude/pink base, simply apply a VERY sheer coat of nude after the white tip is painted on, rather than a clear top coat.

1) apply base

2) apply white to tip of nail

3) apply light coat of base over entire nail

This reduces the stark whiteness of the tip, producing a more natural result. What is the difference between a french and american manicure?
It looks very natural but I personally would go with the french.
A french manicure is typically going to have pink on the base of the nail with white on the tip, and clear over the whole nail to look glossy. American manicures ususally are just one color either pinkish or nude.
French is bright white tips, american is more off-white and natural looking...check out www.beautyden.com for pics
LOL the biggest differene is the price.

Seriously GIA got it right.

she should get best answer, lol--and no i dont know her but she was first to answer the question
